Unforgiveness is on the rise and is seeking to destroy a destiny near you. Is it possible to love the Lord with all your heart, obey His commandments and then miss out on the greatest blessing from God in your life? Yes, it is. The most effectual destroyer of divine destiny is unforgiveness. The inability or the unwillingness of believers to walk in forgiveness has destroyed families, friendships, marriages, churches and every kind of relationship known to man. Jesus said that one of the signs of the end of the age would be that many would be offended. “…what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?...then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another”(Matthew 24:3 & 10). The spirit of offense is in the world today and it is in the Church. Meditate upon the following excerpt from No Ironing on Sundays: Restoring Reverence for God and then stand ready to destroy the destroyer before it destroys you.

Joseph could stand it no longer. “Out all of you!” he cried out to his attendants. He wanted to be alone with his brothers when he told them who he was. Then he broke down and wept aloud. His sobs could be heard throughout the palace, and the news was quickly carried to Pharaoh’s palace. (Genesis 45:1-2, NLT) The only news that was broadcasted that day was the report of Joseph’s heartrending sobs heard throughout the palace. All anyone in Egypt knew was that Joseph had asked his attendants to leave the room after a caravan from Canaan had arrived. No one in Egypt ever knew why Joseph wept so loudly or why he did so without anyone from Egypt present. What the Egyptians did not know was that Joseph had come face to face with his past.

Joseph recognized his brothers immediately when they entered the palace, but they did not recognize him. When Joseph decided to make himself known to his brothers he chose not to make their sin known outside of their family. No one in Egypt ever knew what Joseph’s brothers had done to him. No one in Egypt ever knew that Joseph’s brothers had rejected him, abandoned him, faked his death and then sold him into slavery. After everything they had done to him, have you ever wondered why Joseph would forego a perfect opportunity to stick it to his brothers? To make them pay?

While revenge may be sweet, reconciliation is even sweeter. There was no need for Joseph to strip his brothers bare before all of Egypt. God knew, Joseph knew and his brothers knew. Joseph’s humility and compassion set the stage for his brothers’ deliverance from more than just a famine. By not exposing their sin to the ridicule of Egypt, Joseph prepared a table for the ministry of reconciliation. By loving his brothers who had left him for dead, Joseph taught me how to destroy the transgression while remaining free of the rancorous impulse to destroy the transgressor. As I testify to how I made it over; I will not bury my brothers alive in the coffin of their past wrongdoings. When there is no present danger resulting from a person’s past behavior the Good News of the Gospel can best be told by telling no bad news at all.
